And now I have a full and very happy belly to start the rest of my Saturday!

It’s going to be a good day πŸ™‚

The Little Things

The title of this post makes me think of this song

For some reason this week seemed extra long and kind of dull. I’m not sure if it’s just getting into that time of year that I just want to hibernate or what, but this week kind of drug on….. but there were some perks πŸ™‚

I got to try on my wedding dress for the first time since I picked it out in August! It fit perfectly and I really couldn’t be happier with it!Β  I’m sorry but I’m keeping it a secret…. only my mom and dad know what the dress looks like πŸ˜‰ 4 more months!!!

I also decided to have a fun day today and enjoy the little things like:

Snack plate lunches

This is my favorite way to eat meals, especially when I work the early shift at work and end up eating small meals all day long. The protein and constant energy intake andΒ  just a whole bunch of random foods keeps me going..

Starbucks coffee! I haven’t had coffee from Starbucks in a very long time…. I’m not going to lie, I don’t think I can do the sweet drinks anymore. I had a latte today and it was wayyyyyy too sweet for me for some reason, but I still enjoyed it πŸ™‚

A car trip with my love ❀

A delicious panini with spinach, ricotta cheese, provolone cheese, tomatoes, and pesto for dinner at a small BYO cafe.

Followed by a brownie topped with raspberry and blood orange ice cream πŸ™‚

Some girl time πŸ™‚ I love this nail color!!!!

Finally…. the arrival of my new Frye boots! I love these and cannot wait to wear them!!!!!!!!!

Lots of fun things to do this weekend!

What are the little joys in your life as of late?

An Unlikely Skin Care Post

Hello Friends!

I hope you are enjoying your Saturday! I’m taking a full rest day and spending the day in the kitchen preparing some recipes for the week AND going to a concert tonight that should rock my socks off!

Now, this post here is not a typical post from me but I just couldn’t help but share this awesome advice. You see, I’m not really one that people consult for beauty advice, skin, hair ,make-up, etc. I’ve always just kind of done my own thing and stuck to it for years. However, that has all changed as of lately. The wedding and wedding planning has made me much more of a girly girl. Like I went on a nail polish buying binge, I fell in love with jewelry and sparkely things (the boy loves this (JK)), and just overall became more invested in taking care of myself. Which could also totally explain my love for Pinterest. I haven’t changed all of this in a I have to conform to society and be the most perfect looking person, bride, woman, ever kind of way, but rather in a I want to look and feel healthy with the skin and body that God gave me and take care of what I do have kind of way. I also want to look my personal best and put my foot forward in the world as a real woman.

Essie Nail Polish is the best!

I think the fact that I don’t have the stress and busyness of school anymore I have really been taking the extra time to really take care of myself and my skin. To really figure out the woman I want to be and how I want to approach things like skin care, make up, style, etc. Not that it even takes that much time, I just kind of had my routine and stuck to it for years because it worked. Although I’m discovering now it really didn’t work all that well, I still had acne like a 13 year old from time to time and my skin was rough and dry always. While I still break out occasionally, it has severely reduced and my skin feels so much more unclogged and fresh. Who knew just using an acne cleanser at night didn’t remove all your make up and grime from the day!?

Clarisonic Mia

What have I been doing differently?!

Well for one, I started using a Clarisonic Mia. That alone made my skin feel wonderful and so so fresh and clean! I’ve really never been one to buy into these sorts of gadgets, but my mom bought one and she loved it and then bought me one thinking it would be great to use to get smooth and fresh for the wedding.Β  She was right, it works wonders, funny how Mothers really do know best most of the time πŸ˜‰

But that’s not all, that is only a part of what I have been doing. I’ve developed my own little skincare routine which seems to work perfectly for my skin that is still prone to breakouts, sometimes oily, sometimes extremely dry, sensitive, and just overall a bit unruly. Here is what it looks like:

Remove Make-up

I never used to think about doing this, I figured my cleanser got it all… boy was I wrong.

These are the best

These moist towelettes work amazingly! They smell great, and they leave your skin super smooth and soft AND they are really gentle on sensitive skin!

Prevent Breakouts

I’ve been using this line for awhile, I really only use the scrub and the toner and they work awesome and don’t dry out your skin like a lot of acne cleansers and scrubs do! I only use this at night, but when my acne was at it’s worst (stress related my senior year) I used this morning and night.

I’ve been a huge fan of Neutrogena products for a long time and that doesn’t change with their moisturizer. The combination moisturizer works wonders for me! I use this morning and night, especially in the winter when my skin is SUPER dry!

Other Products

I also use a eye cream at night, which is a new addition to my skin care routine. You can never start too early πŸ˜‰Β  I haven’t experimented too much with different eye creams, but I have found this one to significantly reduce dark circles and redness under my eyes.

Morning Routine

I know a lot of people don’t use cleansers twice a day, but I usually work out in the morning and I need to wash all that sweat off somehow. I’ve recently started using Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, it smells AMAZING! I received it as part of a kit with my Clarisonic, but I couldn’t be happier with it!

I also use Neutrogena moisturizer in the morning as well before I apply my make up. Which trust me, you don’t want me giving you make up advice, because I’m still figuring it out, (even though I’ve been wearing it since I was 13) and I have NO idea what I’m doing.

So there you have it friends! I know some of these products are rather pricey, but they last FOREVER I couldn’t tell you when I bought these products because it has been ages!

What is your favorite skin care product?

A silly day of WIAW

Today was just one of those days, you know where everything is funny and you just do the dumbest things. I for some reason kept slamming my finger on everything at work today, walking in one direction when the thing I needed was in another.Β  Despite the glorious 9 hours of sleep I got last night I was still tired all day long, but none of that hindered a good day of eats!

9:30am: After a horrendous 6 mile run…. yep it was pretty bad, minus the fact that I got to wear shorts on the first day of February!!!! I could get used to this πŸ™‚

I think the oats made up for how crappy the run left me feeling, they were out of this world!

Vanilla protein powder

Peanut Flour

Kashi GoLean Berry Crisp

Raspberries and Blueberries

Peanut butter

Eaten around 2:30… I was ready to naw my arm off by the time I got to eating this!

V8 Roasted Rep Pepper Soup

Lentils and Kidney beans mixed in the soup for some chew factor

Cara Cara Orange

Snap peas and Cherry tomatoes

The boy made me dinner once again πŸ™‚ He makes THE BEST blueberry pancakes… basically he does the breakfast thing perfectly!

2 Multigrain blueberry pancakes (I went back for another)

1 egg done to perfection!

I didn’t have my normal afternoon snack, so a snack was in order tonight!

I helped myself to two of the Chocolate Reeses cookies and some Kashi Country Cheddar crackers!

Despite the silliness, it was a good day of eats!

What is your favorite thing that you ate today?

Chocolate Reese’s Cookies

Wow sorry for totally disappearing over the weekend! I honestly couldn’t even tell you that I did anything super exciting, it was just relaxing and wonderful! I hope you all had wonderful weekends too!

Lately wedding stuff has been clogging my mind and taking up my extra time, not a bad thing at all though πŸ™‚ We are down to 4 1/2 months! It seems so unreal from the 10 months we had when we got engaged! Invitations, DJ music lists, decorations, and videographers are the topics as of right now.

I did do one exciting thing over the weekend the boy and I made a delicious dinner Saturday night. We made Jessica’s Creamy Tuscan White Bean Pasta. It was absolutely amazing!

THEN….. today I made the most amazing chocolate cookies ever. And I seriously mean ever, because I don’t usually like chocolate cookies. The perfect combination of chewy, crunchy, and soft and just the right amount of chocolate!

I’ve had this idea in my head to make Reese’s cookies for dayyyyyssss now and I finally did this afternoon and this recipe paired perfectly with the Reeses πŸ™‚

If you love cookies half as much as I do… buy this book! It is amazing and I use it every time I need a new or basic cookie recipe, it has got everything. And who doesn’t love King Arthur! Now, back to the cookies……

It all started with Reese's cups

Chocolate batter

And then it turned into something wonderful!

Chocolate Reese’s Cookies

Adapted from this recipe

1 cup (2 sticks) butter

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

2 tsp vanilla

3/4 cup cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

3/4 tsp salt

1/2 bag of Reese’s, chopped

Preheat oven to 375. Mix sugar, eggs, butter, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer, add cocoa powder and beat until combined. Next add salt, baking soda and flour. Stir with a mixing spatula to combine. Roll into balls, on the smaller side (they spread a lot) and bake. Bake each tray about 10-15 minutes, or until slightly flattened. Remove from oven and place broken reeses cup pieces on top of cookies and place back in the oven for 2-3 minutes. Remove and let cool on a wire rack.

Don't forget to share!

It’s time for WIAW!

My morning started off on the right foot….. an 8 mile run that felt WONDERFUL! I haven’t run that far since before break, but I felt great and I did it!

This was eaten around 9:30 after my run and a shower. I was starving and craving a HUGE yogurt bowl, so that is just what I had!

Plain Chobani

Pumpkin butter

1/2 Apple

Cinnamon Crumble Kashi

I ate this around 2 while I was at work

Homemade Special Chili

Cara Cara Orange (maybe I like them because they have my name, but they are also pink inside and sooo good!)

Homemade Banana Bread

I munched on this while I was finishing up at work and a bit on my way home around 5

The rest of my apple from breakfast

Homemade Trail mix (Almonds, Kashi Cinnamon Harvest, raisins, dried mango)

This was eaten around 6:30-7. In celebration for out 3 year anniversary the boy made me dinner, since I worked later into the evening. He did a wonderful job, I devoured nearly every bite!

Venison Steaks

Grape Stuffed Sweet Potato from How Sweet Eats <—- so delicious by the way!

Steam in the bag Broccoli

Ghirardhelli Caramel Walnut Brownie also made by the boy and Edy’s double churn caramel delight ice cream

I hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday!

3 years

Three years ago today I said yes to dating this boy, the man that in just 4 1/2 months I will be saying “I Do” to.

It has been an incredible 3 years of fun and laughter and sharing our lives together!

It all started one evening at a campus ministry group on the campus of our college. We both had never seen each other there before and we started talking…… we both attended a lot of the same ministries and groups on campus and were able to get to know one another through those times as well as through times of serving others in the community and at the various parties and gatherings our groups on campus would have. Though when we met it was just 2 weeks before Christmas break.. and even though our friendship was so new we stayed in touch throughout the break and once we came back from break we started hanging out even more. We went on little dates to the free movies in the student union, play pool, and would watch The Office every week together.

Apparently everyone else saw it, but me. Don’t get me wrong I was interested in him but I wasn’t sure were this friendship was going so when he finally asked me out I didn’t know how to respond…. of course/obviously I said yes. We were at a church game night and we were getting ready to leave when he pulled me close and asked if I would like to be “ya know more than friends”. I giggled, turned red, and said yes.

Since that awkward time. We have had some incredible adventures together and have seen each other through the stressful times (both in our senior years, when we were in over our head with classes) and the best of times. I’ll let some of the pictures do the talking πŸ™‚
